From the past to the present...
Standing proudly through time, marking a century of existence, the "Aktaion" building has kept the island's history well preserved. A bridge linking the past and the present, bequeathing to the future generation the memories of yesteryear. A historic venue full of powerful moments for young and old alike.
A look back at the past...
Built at the start of the 20th century during the Ottoman Empire, it served as a club for Ottoman officers until the Italian occupation when it changed hands. In addition to being a club for Italian officers, it was also a center for artistic events. During the German occupation, apart from serving as a customs office, it also functioned as a club for the Allied forces, while with the withdrawal of the English allies from the island, the rich decoration of the space was looted and works and objects of high artistic value were stolen.
The constant succession of occupations of the island had direct consequences on the architecture of Aktaion. The building has undergone 4 major renovations over the years, most of them with an Italian flair, while retaining elements of Eastern Romanesque architecture

In 1946, the building, once inaccessible to the people of Rhodes, was named "Aktaion", which means the portion of land next to the sea, or the coastal area, and acquired the glamour and the position it still holds today for the local society of Rhodes. On this day there is a big celebration held on the grounds of "Aktaion" now bearing a Greek signature.
An imposing tree (Ficus Benjamin), a symbol of hope and change that marks the beginning of a new life for Rhodes, free and independent, adorns the courtyard of "Aktaion" to this day. This tree was planted on 31 March 1947, the day of our liberation, and since then the building has witnessed only positive developments and has become a point of reference for all events and celebrations planned at the center.
